On the Boards:

Today, we're looking at an early rendition of a large home we're designing. The client came in with a plan they liked, but hated the elevations and said, and we're going to quote here, "Have Fun, give me something creative and your style." We've been hurt before, so we don't always believe a client really means that, so we compromised. We had fun, we did some designs that were funky and creative, and a few that were more traditional, and a couple of compromises in between (the four basic schemes which we created a couple of options each to give additional variety the choosing were labeled Modern Massing, Single Pitch Contemporary, Rustic, and Post Modern). Now it's up to them to tell us how creative they want us to get so we can apply a design logic to the entire house to create the final shape closest to the designs we've put together so far.

What happens when you give us a set of covenants and a very broad list of requirements? You get this, where our creativity was limited only by the realities of building a home without a client. You don't want it too odd, but you do want to stand out from the crowd. Add in the historical requirements, and you end up with something like this, 3 different approaches to creating a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath residence. We started with very simple forms and suggested various changes like adding dormers or upgraded columns. We did one with a very prominent stair tower to really mix things up on the front facade. Waiting on the client's comments to progress this forward.
