On the Boards

Last chance, this plan is mirrored which helped out with the site layout, and has an extensively redesigned interior, but it ends up with a very traditional form. Again, our front and back aren't intended to match up exactly (one went blue, one went green) although they have a similar style. Our goal on these intial designs is to give our clients a LOT to talk about. We love to hear that something worked, but even better, sometimes hearing about what absolutely was dreadful. Eliminating options and narrowing in on what does work is the best part of experimenting.

On the Boards:

Yup, we said this was Spaghetti time (as in throw it against the wall, see what sticks.) Compare this design to the previous, it's the same basic house, but detailed out in a very different way. This one focuses on vaults, clerestories, and a post-modern vibe. This design would allow light into the middle of this large house a lot better, but might be harder to heat and cool (all of the vaults can lead to a lot of volume) and a VERY different aesthetic. If necessary, we could probably make something like this work for the previous (and the next) designs so a client who finds this funky and cool can let us know that and we can then adapt a plan to be more like this. Again, the front and the back have a slightly different material palette to allow our client a chance to comment on colors or materials separately from the overall aesthetic, massing, or plans.

Buckle up, today we're showing off a large new home design in it's initial stages. We were throwing some wildly different looks, styles, and materials at the client to see what would stick. This was the first option. We concentrated on creating large masses with a traditional detailing. The colors were intended to be highly contrasting black and white with accents at doors and roofs. Generally, a client will start with feedback on which plans were working best for them, but by showing them so many elevational/massing/material options, we can also get feedback on what they like and what we might not bother showing them next time.
